How it works

Fact finding

Our first visit is for information gathering. You find out more about how I work, and I find out about your insurance needs. I will explain where your financial risks are and suggest solutions to mitigate those risks. All the information at this meeting and all other meetings is completely confidential.

Shopping

Once we identify the risks, we go shopping on my software for the best premiums and create a custom package that best suits your needs. You determine the dollar amount that you are willing to spend on insurance and I will give you a couple of scenarios that fit your budget. If we have to, we will keep tweaking the coverage and/or the premiums until you are comfortable with the amount of coverage you apply for and the price you will be paying.

Qualifying

Often, a visit from a paramedical company is required to ascertain the physical condition of the client. I will arrange for this meeting which usually takes between 15 and 20 minutes. The nurse will come to you at your home or at your place of work. The extent to the information that they will be collecting will depend on the amount and kind of coverage you are applying for.

Approval

Once the company receives the application and all other information they require, they will make a decision regarding your approval. Occasionally, a policy might be rated, postponed or even declined as a result of the health information received on the application or as a result of paramedical or physician's report. Sometimes they reduce the premium that I've quoted because the client qualifies for a lower rate!

Delivery

As soon as I receive your policy documents we arrange a time for me to deliver the policy to you. We review the information in the contract and sign the necessary documents.

Follow Up

Clients sometimes appreciate getting together a few months after to review the coverage they purchased. If not, we usually stay in touch by email or phone to make sure that your circumstances haven’t changed and that the insurance in force continues to meet your needs.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between an insurance broker and an insurance agent?

An insurance agent usually represents one company and can only provide the products at that company’s premium price point. An insurance broker is contracted by several companies which enables him/her to shop the market for you and get the best value for your premium dollars.

I just purchased a house and the bank says I need insurance. Is it better to buy it from the bank or from a life insurance company?

When you purchase a policy that is linked to your mortgage, the amount of coverage goes down as your mortgage is reduced. The bank is the beneficiary of the insurance. In the event that your policy benefits are paid out, your family has no say where the money goes. Instead of paying for a policy that protects your family and their home, the mortgage is paid off without any additional cash for caring for the family’s needs. Purchasing directly from an insurance company allows the beneficiary of the policy to maintain control of financial decisions.

What is a living benefit?

Disability insurance and Critical Illness insurance are living benefits. Disability insurance provides income protection in the event that you can't work due to illness or injury. Critical Illness insurance pays a lump sum benefit 30 days after the diagnosis of an illness that is stipulated in the contract.

What is Long Term Care Insurance?

70% of individuals 65 and over will require some type of long term care. Long Term Care coverage pays for the support many require in order to remain in their home.

I've been ill in the past, can I still get insurance?

95% of all applications are approved for insurance through MyDignity Long Term Care.

Story behind the business

One evening in 1989, my dad came to my house for dinner and suggested that I join him in insurance business. At the time, I was running a music school which I had grown from 1 to 95 students. What he said was, "you've been a musician and a business woman for years. Now you work while your own children are home from school. Come into my business and I'll teach you everything you need to know; you can be there for your kids and have a great career too!" Heeding his advice was the best decision I ever made.

Everyone has their own reasons for making career choices. My dad highlighted a great reason for me to make that career change and I was blessed with his company and mentorship for over 8 years, until he passed away in 1999.

In January, 2016, I celebrated my 25th anniversary in the insurance industry. And in that time, I have experienced many of the same life events that my clients have. This gives me a unique and personal perspective on their financial security.

Over the 25 years that I've been in the business I have served my clients with the business values that my dad taught me. Listen, problem solve, explain, and be there for your clients.
